Affordable Business Plan? Yes!

In Business Plan, Miscellaneous Writing, Uncategorized on May 31, 2012 at 8:52 pm

Recently a well known, respected, fellow writer (who shall remain nameless) slammed me on her blog site because I am “under charging” for my business plan writing. She insists that “writing a business plan should cost several thousand dollars…it is a complex document and specialized, highly paid work…”

I replied, “I have direct experience with loan officers and SBA reps, all of whom preferred my concise 20 page plans over the overblown, overly detailed plans (the $2000 plans)… Most entrepreneurs don’t have thousands of dollars to spend on a business plan. That’s where I come in. I know how to write excellent bp’s following the preferred SBA format (including financials). And there is no reason to charge an arm and a leg.”

As an entrepreneur at heart and a freelance writer, I have the perfect front row seat to view both sides of the issue.  While there is indeed a market and a real need for those expensive business plans, there is an even greater need for affordable business plans for the every day entrepreneur.

A typical mom and pop “enterprise” has a shoe string budget. But they also need a professionally written business plan for a variety of reasons. Whether a new business seeking start up funds, or an ongoing venture in need of equipment or inventory, a business loan might be required at some point. And that will require a formal business plan. There is no way around it.

I have spoken with loan officers that have told me they are appalled at the number of people that walk into the bank to apply for a loan and they don’t come prepared with a business plan. Why not? Either they didn’t know they needed one or they simply could not afford to pay for one.

Knowing all of this, and having been there myself, I am happy to offer my services at a reasonable rate! My business plans meet the requirements of the standard, SBA preferred plans. They include all the major financial reports (graphs, charts, etc.). And the all important Executive Summary is written with the intent of grabbing the reader’s attention and keeping her interest through the end.
